Becoming a writer on your own

So, you think you’ve got what it takes?

Because of the opportunities online we are told that editors, publishers and long held monopolies are losing their stranglehold on what is published. However, once every writer gets online, they realize that their own efforts drown in the sheer amount of published material. Therefore, affordable allies are needed. The aim of this website is to provide that service.

“Eighty percent of success is showing up.”

The Author’s Guild 2017 survey

The famous quotation by Woody Allen above was probably true in every sense at the time when he wrote it. It still very true that you must work hard to achieve your goals. But the type of work is changing, simply posting your text online gets you nowhere. According to a huge 2017 survey by the author’s guild in the US (diagram from the Author’s Guild website), the full time writer is on “on the verge of extinction”. According to their report: “Authors on average spend 7.5 hours every week on marketing and promoting their books, an increase of 14% (genre writers up 39%) over the past five years; yet only 8% of all published authors realized a significant increase in book-related income.”
